Here we are looking at two copies of the Chet Baker Sextet record on 10 inch, as well as Charlie Parker with Strings (no cover).
First, the Chet records both play about the same – there is very minimal noise on them, and the playing has tons of room to be present. I wouldn’t say one is really any better than the other, they both play out at a super strong VG+, bordering on NM (I listened to both of them). The playing on it is great, it really swings.
Cover-wise, the one on the right has some rubbing. The left one is cleaner, though there is a bit of old tape residue, and 13 is written in the corner (upper left) – small dent lower left corner. The backs on both are pretty clear – the one on the right is more discolored/aged than the other one. So lefty is stronger combo of the two, with both discs spinning about the same play grade, but the cover being better on Lefty. In addition to these, we were discussing the 10 inch of Charlie Parker with Strings that has no cover. The wax here is mostly clean and solid, but there is some storage kind of marks on one side – don’t think they play, but it’s visual. Otherwise this one is pretty free from damages from play, so any marks on it look to be from storage…I found it in a plastic sleeve in a box, and it didn’t look like it had seen the light of day in decades. But there was light mildew/mold on tons of stuff I got, so it was in the air in the storage unit -that is what I saw in/on the wax. I think I played this, but can’t remember so I can play test on request – but zoom in and you can see the wax is super clean.
