Here we have Bill Evans Trio doing Waltz for Debby, the orginal pressing on Riverside.
The cover on this one is unfortunate – it has age on both sides, an inventory piece of tape on the front, and the edges are blown out all the way around. The back cover shows age but is readable – yet the edges are fully gone on this one, all the way around so it does not function well as a cover, but still looks decent enough. I’ve had worse! Inner is one I replaced when I found this one.
The wax is pretty good on side one, with a couple light scuffs but they are few and spaced so it is very unobtrusive. I did not clip a video of playing the A side, but trust me it plays well with a few clicks. Instead, I focused my play test video on the worst part of the record – songs one and two on side two.
There is a storage related bit of scuffing here that is audible, and it is the worst sounding part of this record (in terms of vinyl condition), so I tried to play a whole bunch of it to give you a clear idea. I see these marks as staying there no matter how this is cleaned – know that I did run it thru the spin clean before playing it. It was simply a bad cover holding a great record, so it got a little wear there as a result…my Discogs description was pretty spot-on to the way it spins.
But the worst parts of the record are clipped here, very much on purpose. If this is OK, the rest of the record will make you very happy indeed! I priced it low for all the issues noted, but I like playing it personally…even with the noise, it is still lovely to me. My opinion means nothing though – the clip is here so you can decide for yourself.
Let me know if I can tell or show you anything else – Cheers!
