Here we are looking at Billie Holiday’s Lady In Satin. This one is a promo, white label Columbia from 1958.
This copy is a top copy – it is in excellent shape, all around. I have a couple of these right now, and this is the best copy of it that I have. The cover is clean and only shows the slightest bit of age. There is some degree of shelf wear/rubbing, but it is totally normal for a record this old in good shape – nothing excessive. Inner has been replaced and is a nice poly one. Labels are equally lovely on both sides.
The vinyl itself is the star here, though: it is super clean, and shows absolutely zero indications of being played or mishandled anywhere. I can’t see anything that would prevent a perfect playback here, it is that nice. I have another promo of this right now, and the cover is pretty close to this one, but the vinyl is not as flawless. This is as nice as used records tend to be – you can see it in the images.

In addition to the mono promo above, we’ll also have a look at a stereo version I have of this, same year (1958).
This one, the record’s jacket has a little wear, but it is not a ton to the panels. It is more important to note that the edges have a little bit of minor damage, in flaking. The top edge has a little splitting starting at the opening, but again, it is small – you can see it in the zoomed image (I loaded the top edge first). The bottom edge does not have as much flaking to it, and is not splitting. The spine is still solid all the way thru it.
The inner on this is a really cool original Columbia. It is clear poly, so it took good care of the record over the years, The labels are 6-eye red Columbia, and they are totally clean.
The vinyl on this one is the star here- even though the cover has some minor issues, the record doesn’t. It looks like this will have an amazing playback: I can’t see anything in the vinyl to report.
