Here’s Chick Chick, the legendary rockabilly single on Mike.
I am not gonna lie – this is a weirdo! If you dig rockabilly, this one is basically the king of them all – it hits all the levers. If you can’t hear the awesomeness in this record, then go ahead and find some more Hall and Oates, Foreigner, and Billy Squier. There’s some Styx records calling your name.
To me, he sounds like he is trying to learn how to use the echoplex – and his bowels perhaps, at the same time. It is strange, and fun, and deserving of its place in the hall of fame for sure – glad to spin it. And to share it here, forever.
This one is pretty worn…I am not sugar coating it. Hammered one might say. Poor thing. The labels are all but shot – I struggled to see what I had here, but saw the Mike label logo. It’s totally beat up, both sides, and I can make no apologies for any of it.
And yet, it plays pretty darn well – especially the Chick Chick side, which is all you want. Surrender is one of those staggering ballads and I didn’t care about it at all…the hype on this one is for Chick Chick for sure. Deserving of its hall of fame status to me, too.
