Here is a really close look at Hank Mobley, Blue Note 1568.
This is a special one – feel pretty lucky to be offering it. The cover is clean and nice – I zoomed in on the pictures of the corners to show the minor bumps there. The only thing that is coming close to something to report, is that the mouth opens a bit wide – not sure why that is, but got a picture for you to see what I mean. It is not 100% free from dirt/age, but it is in SUPER clean shape for sure…it has yellowed I think (likely was a more pure white), and on the back, there is a faint bit of water-looking stuff (see the zoomed picture, below). Also note on the back cover, the NR stamp, which is from the factory – usually meant “Not returnable” hahaha – seems like a silly thing to ask for this one. 🙂 But the cover is a solid VG+ to me, and the pictures should support it.
The inner is original, but I didn’t pull it out from the sleeve as it is tight in there…you will be able to do that yourself as you see fit when it is yours. I did put it (the record) in a new plastic-lined heavy inner to simply help protect it. It’s in a new 3 ml outer as well.
The vinyl is pretty amazing – especially for an early, super rare Blue Note. It isn’t perfect, so not NM rating, but the imperfections are really, really light and should not affect your playback.Â
NOTE: I did not run it thru a Discwasher, because early Blue Note labels can bleed and I simply won’t risk it. I also am not playing it, because my cart and table are most likely less in quality than whomever’s it is that is buying it – so I want to again, avoid anything potentially risky. You can see in the video clip, the wax is lovely – I tried to show every imperfection as best I could.
I would guess it plays almost fully NM, with an occasional pop perhaps? But don’t take my word for it – I provided as much detail here as I could to help you see what this one is. Use the video clips and images to see it closely. It is a special find – not likely to be seen again anytime soon in this kind of shape.
