Here we are looking at John Coltrane And Paul Quinichette – Cattin’ With Coltrane And Quinichette on Prestige from 59.

The cover on this one is really nice. There is some slight age to it, but it is seriously minor. There’s a super small sticker on the back. Edges are solid.

Plain white inner (replaced). Labels are clean and solid.

The wax is a little bit of something to see, with a fair amount of chatter on it. I will be honest, I was expecting a pretty loud bunch of crackle based on what I saw…I was very pleasantly surprised by the playback. Part of it, is because of the nature of the recording (it’s pretty loud arrangements, not super spacious), so the playing is ALWAYS louder than any surface noise. I did hear some random clicks/pops both sides, but it didn’t bother me at all, really. I would almost rate this higher, but I like that I put it out at G+, and know that it sounds like it does…it plays pretty wonderfully to me. It plays better than G+ for sure – but there are some background clicks, I am not trying to gloss them over. They simply don’t overpower.

B side was cleaner than a side, and you can see it – there is a mark on the A side that clicks occasionally (it wasn’t constant to me, but it does pop later in the side more than earlier, and the pops are louder toward the end of side one), yet both sides have a small bit of surface noise to contend with. The spaces between the songs, you can hear it – during the songs, I didn’t hear it as much.

The last song on side A you can hear it the most, both because the mark gets deeper there and also the song is quieter than the rest, so the click seems more constant and less random there. The closer to the end of the record it gets, the more pronounced the click became to me. The playing is great though, so the mostly random clicks and pops didn’t worry me. This one definitely plays better than it appears to be able to – it sounded great to me. The only one that truly felt G+ was to me the last song…it’s pretty pop-filled. I dug the rest of the record.
