Here we are going to look at the three great titles above. Let’s get right into it. Click any image to zoom in, using the browser to get back to this page.

First, we’ll look at Hank Jones, Quartet/Quintet, released in 1956 on Savoy.

The condition of this one looks to be pretty solid, both in cover and wax, with a couple noted cover issues (you’ll see it all zoomed, below). The front is clean, and shows just a little bit of wear/rubbing. I took a pic of the edge to try to show a slight curl to the top and bottom – looks like a storage thing, like it was in a box perhaps.

The back cover has some age spots up top, and most important to see is the waterish stain bottom left corner…the worst of the damages here.

The wax looks clean – didn’t see anything on it from storage or playing, so looks like it’ll spin like a champ for you.

Next, we’ll go into Kenny Dorham and the Jazz Prophets, Vol. 1 on ABC Paramount, 1956.

This one has a really solid cover overall, though the back shows foxing/age. I zoomed in on what looks in the picture like some kind of glaring imperfection on the front, but it is really pretty minor. It is because there is a coating on the cover, and it was a bump or something – but it is really nothing much at all.

I took a picture of the original inner, which I replaced with a plain paper one. The wax one put scuffs on the record, I think – I hate those things sometimes.

But yeah, the wax of this one shows some marks, so it got the VG rating. It looks like it will play well, but it will have pops, and maybe a bit of light crackle in the background from the marks. Most look to be from the inner, but some might be from a needle too…

I do likely have different Kenny Dorham stuff around that isn’t listed yet that has some lower end cost stuff too, if you have any interest. I coulda swore I saw one in the last couple days.

And last, but far from least, we have Andrew Hill’s great Black Hill on Blue Note, mono from 1964.

The cover on this one has a little bit of an issue on the edges. The top has a split from the mouth that goes about 2 inches, and there is a small split down the spine too, from the top. The bottom edge has been repaired well – I missed it at first. there was a small rip in the bottom front, and one about 2 inches on the back cover, top left.

The inner is the original – nothing to report there.

Wax looked really lovely – this was a honey. I think it will spin exceptionally well for you – this is some of the best years for Blue Notes, so this one will be loud and lovely.

I can spin any of these if you want me to – happy to. 🙂
