Here we are looking at Kenny Dorham and the Jazz Prophets Volume One from 1956 on ABC Paramount.

This one has a really solid cover overall, though the back shows clearly established levels of foxing/age and discoloration. I zoomed in on what looks (in the picture) like some kind of glaring imperfection or damage on the front left bottom corner, but it is really pretty minor in reality – the picture exaggerates it, which is OK by me. It is truly because there is a coating/lamination on the cover, and it was a bump or something that left this mark – but it is seriously nothing much at all.

I took a picture of the original inner, which I replaced with a plain paper one. The wax one put scuffs on the record, I think – I hate those things sometimes.

The wax of this one shows some light superficial marks, so it got the VG rating which seems accurate to me. It looks like it will play well, but it will very likely have pops, and maybe a bit of light crackle in the background from the marks (it typically has some light residual crackle from those wax paper inners). Most of any noise that will be  found here looks to be from the inner, but some might be from a needle too…happy to play test this one today if you wish. I can probably get a short clip of it on YouTube – I would find the worst part of the record and tape that for about a minute. Click an image to see it larger, using the browser to get back here.
