Here we are looking at Julian Adderley Quartet’s Portrait of Cannonball, Riverside 12-269.
This one is a nice one overall, but does have a little wear to it. The cover (which I never cleaned or did more than simply wipe down)has some degree of dirt and age showing, but is still solid. There is a little splitting starting on the bottom edge so I took a picture of it zoomed – but it is minor, really. There is still a pretty good shine to the front cover when tilted in the light, so the shelf wear isn’t that severe (could potentially be cleaned). There is a little bit of wear on the lower bottom of the spine, again it is pretty minor, but noted. Back cover likewise shows its age, and is a bit worn. Inner has been replaced with the existing plain white one.
The labels are both clean and sweet. The star though, is the wax. There was the one mark in it, otherwise, this one is free from any scuffs from storage or overplay…side two has nothing at all to report. On side one, there is a little mark, and it does reflect back in the playback I determined after spinning it a bunch of times. I literally played it multiple times to make sure the sounds were consistent, which means they won’t clean out. NOTE: I did NOT run this thru the spin cleaner, or even clean the disc on the platter before spinning, and it was still super clean.
I took a video clip of the worst part of the playback – if you can get thru it and not be dissuaded from the record, the rest will make you very, very happy indeed. I don’t consider this a problem spot in the playback, but it is the only spot I found with any kind of consistent noise to report. When searching for your final copy, you need to know. Hope the clip shows you something you can rely on – I also guarantee my sales, so you have no worries (I take unquestioned refunds).
Check it out below, and let me know – Cheers!
