Here we are looking at Jimmy Smith’s Home Cookin’, Blue Note 4050.
The cover here has some wear to it – you can see it more in the back cover than the front. The top and bottome edge also have some wear to them – the bottom has a spot about 1-2 inches (in the center) and the top has a couple near splits starting. The spine looks to be solid still.
The inner is a waxed one, so it may be original, though I think Blue Note was using the 25 year inners…I am not sure on that, and can’t see someone using a wax replacement. I can give you a new paper inner when I send it. The labels are clean…a little smudge on side 2, but still very clean.
I saw some light storage related marks on this, but spinning it (with a simple wet wipedown)it played better than I thought – I would easily put this as a very strong VG, if not, maybe even a VG+. It does have some random pops from the surface marks, but I didn’t hear anything that repeated (that drives me nuts) – more it was a case of things having some light background stuff. But don’t take my word for it – that is what the play test is for.
I also have some more stuff by him, not yet listed – I couldn’t find the big pile, but I did find a mono Chicken Shack and a solid looking copy of Rockin’ the Boat. I am still looking for the rest, but didn’t want to keep you waiting on this any longer. I do have 3-4 of his at my retail space down the road – and I have more listed on Discogs, so if you wanna bundle some up, lemme know.
