Here we are looking at Stanley Turrentine and The Three Sounds’ Blue Hour on Blue Note, #4057.

This one is a lovely piece all around – a really nice copy. It is the mono version from 1961, verified by the runout, the address on the back cover (61st) compared to the labels (63rd), and being a deep groove.

The cover is sharp-the front had such a nice shine to it, it was very hard to get a picture because the overhead lamp was too shiny. Not much rubbing to it at all, and the edges and spine are all good with just a very little bit of chipping on the bottom edge. The back cover has a little more rubbing to it, but is still solid. Look at the top of the back cover to see 365 in very light black crayon. Also see the small number 4 stamped there-that is the extent of it.

The inner is still perfect. It’s the original 25 year company sleeve, and none of the sides are split, which is a very good sign of how often it went in and out of it – meaning, none. Likewise the labels are pristine, and there are zero marks near the spindle hole, which suggests it was never or rarely ever played. There are typically little marks from someone trying to find the center hole, and this has none of them.

The wax was equally hard to get in a picture, because it was so shiny. I saw at best a small mark or 2 from storage, but really, it is about as nice as you will find a used record. I didn’t spin it or even try to clean it at all – it didn’t need it. There is nothing in the wax on either side to make me think it’ll play less than perfectly…really lovely.

This was a wonderful find today in my stacks – it is about as nice a record as you will find, which is especially nice for this title.
